EASY HOMEMADE EGG NOG
In this video, I show you how to make an easy homemade egg nog. You may be surprised by how easy it is to make, and the results will be far better than any store-bought egg nog. It's a perfect recipe for the holidays!
INGREDIENTS
4 Cups Whole Milk
8 Egg Yolks
¾ Cup Sugar
2 Crushed Cinnamon Sticks
1 Heaped Tbsp of Crushed Cloves
2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
2 Grated Nutmeg
1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 Tbsp Ground Ginger
1 ½ Cups Heavy Cream OR 2 Cups Heavy Cream
½ Cup Brandy and ½ Cup Dark Rum/ Bourbon
STEPS
Heat the whole milk in a heavy pot until warm (at least 160°F).
In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks and gradually add the sugar. Whisk until the mixture turns significantly lighter in color and is well aerated.
Incorporate the warm milk into the egg mixture one ladle at a time, whisking between each addition.
Pour the mixture back into the heavy pot along with the cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, and 1 nut of grated nutmeg.
Heat the mixture on low heat for about 20 minutes while stirring continuously.
Once the mixture has thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon, remove from heat and strain through a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl.
Add the ground cinnamon and ginger, and grate the second nutmeg into the mixture.
Whisk in the heavy cream and optional alcohols.
Cool the egg nog over a bowl of ice water, stirring occasionally.
