HOMEMADE HOT CHOCOLATE
In this video, I show you how to make two different, easy to make homemade hot chocolates, that'll be far better than any instant mix.
BASIC HOT CHOCOLATE
INGREDIENTS
2 Cups Milk, Preferably Whole Milk
24g (2 Tbsp) Granulated Sugar
90g (3/8 Cup) Semisweet Chocolate
8g (1.5 Tbsp) Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
STEPS
Add milk and sugar to a saucepan, and heat over medium heat
Once mixture is hot, add chocolate and whisk until dissolved
Whisk in cocoa powder, and serve
MEXICAN HOT CHOCOLATE
INGREDIENTS
2 Cups Milk, Preferably Whole Milk
6 Cloves, Crushed
1.5–2 Cinnamon Sticks, Crushed
1/4 Nut of Nutmeg (1/4 tsp if using pre-ground nutmeg), OR 1/8 tsp Ground Allspice
1/8 tsp Ground Cayenne Pepper (optional)
42g Dark Brown Sugar
120g Bittersweet/Dark Chocolate
1/2 Vanilla Bean (scraped from pod), or 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
STEPS
Add milk to a saucepan set over medium-low heat, then whisk in your sugar, salt, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice
Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes
Whisk in the bittersweet chocolate and continue to heat, whisking occasionally, until the chocolate is completely melted
Whisk in the vanilla, then remove the pan from the heat
Strain the hot chocolate through a fine-mesh strainer into a heat-proof container, and serve, garnished with marshmallows or whipped cream, grated dark chocolate, and additional cinnamon, if desired
WHIPPED CREAM
INGREDIENTS
250mL (1 Cup) Heavy Whipping Cream
30g (1/4 Cup) Confectioner's Sugar
15mL (1 tsp) Vanilla Extract
STEPS
Combine all ingredients and whip to firm peaks.
