HOMEMADE GARLIC NAAN BREAD
In this video, I show you how to make garlic naan bread at home. It's super easy, and can be done completely on a stovetop, so it's a great introduction to bread making.
INGREDIENTS
FOR THE BREAD
310g (~2.5 Cups) Bread Flour
5g (1.5 tsp) Instant Yeast
9g (1 Tbsp) Kosher Salt
18g (1.5 Tbsp) Granulated Sugar
6oz Warm Water (at ~100F)
14g (1 Tbsp) Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
42g (1/4 Cup) Plain Yogurt
FOR THE GARLIC BUTTER
1 Stick (1/2 Cup) Unsalted Butter
3 Cloves Garlic, Grated
4 Sprigs Cilantro, Finely Chopped
STEPS
Mix together the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the water, olive oil and yoghurt until thoroughly incorporated.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously.
As the dough comes together, knead with your hands for a few minutes or until relatively smooth.
Dust the dough with a little flour, cover and leave to rest for 60-90 minutes or until doubled in size.
Melt the butter and add in the garlic, cilantro and salt to taste. Leave to sit.
Transfer the risen dough to a lightly floured surface and roll into a log.
Divide the log into 6 equal sized pieces.
Preheat a heavy bottomed pan or skillet over medium-high heat.
Roll each piece of dough into a ball and roll out to a thickness of roughly ¼ inch.
Add each naan, one at a time, to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side.
Immediately after removing each naan from the skillet, brush with the garlic butter and leave to rest for at least a minute or two.
Garnish with a little more cilantro and serve.
