HOW TO MAKE A BETTER SAUSAGE, EGG, AND CHEESE SANDWICH
In this video, I show you how to make a better sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. By making our own sausage patties from scratch, and taking care to treat each ingredient properly, we can end up with an incredible result!
INGREDIENTS
1 English Muffin
1 Tbsp Butter
1 Large Egg
8 oz of 80% Lean Ground Pork
2 tsp Thyme
1/2 tsp Chile Powder
1 1/2 tsp Granulated Garlic
1/4 Nut (~1/2 tsp) Freshly Grated Nutmeg
5-6 Twists Freshly Ground Black Pepper
1 ½ Tbsp Maple Syrup
Salt (to taste)
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Jam (for topping)
STEPS
Slice the english muffin in half.
Melt the butter in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Place the muffin halves, cut side down, into the skillet and cook until browned. Transfer to plate and set aside.
Place the ground pork, thyme, chili powder, granulated garlic, nutmeg, black pepper and maple syrup into a medium bowl and mix with your fingertips, making sure to handle as little as possible.
Form the mixture into 4 equal sized, loosely packed balls and sprinkle the tops with salt.
Heat the skillet over medium-high heat until smoking hot.
Add two balls to the pan at a time, salted side down, and immediately push them flat with a spatula. Salt the top side of the patties.
After 1-2 minutes, flip the patties and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side.
Once the patties are cooked, place the first inside your english muffin, followed by a slice of american cheese and the second patty.
In a small bowl, beat the egg with salt and pepper until thoroughly scrambled.
Place a round cookie cutter in a skillet and add some olive oil to the centre.
Add the egg to the center, stirring frequently over a low heat.
Once the egg has solidified, flip it over for a few seconds to cook through. Place on top of the sausage patties.
Spread the jam over the inside of the top slice of english muffin. Place on top of the scrambled egg and serve.
